Outdoor: the coolest trends!

Life moves en plein air, where outdoor trends and garden furniture call the shots: design and lightness, beauty and comfort!

2018 is the year of outdoor living.
External areas are growing in importance and are the focus of interest of architects and designers, attracting great attention at the latest Milan Design Week.

The new outdoor trends do away with the confines between indoor and outdoor.
The key words are sociability and comfort: chaises longue, maxi poufs, low seats and three-seater sofas, soft and comfortable. Hybrid furnishings suitable for crossing from one environment to another, convertible and retractable.

Outdoor design is equally attentive to the aesthetic and functional aspects of an environment.
Everything has to be comfortable, welcoming and practical.
Steel, concrete, iron, wood and metal are the preferred materials for structural furniture and elements; natural materials and soft colours for complements and accessories; high-tech solutions – such as solar showers and bioclimatic sunscreens – for the solarium, the swimming pool and the garden.

Common to all the outdoor trends: a botanical element and Lagom style, a lifestyle that chooses sober elegance with the aim of wellbeing and relaxation. The garden is increasingly lush, luxuriant, far from the typical Italian-style garden.

Flowering plants give way to the vegetable garden and aromatic plants, a real must-have of outdoor living, also in small spaces and terraces, where it’s possible to opt for equally charming floating gardens and vertical gardens.
The lighting is soft and relaxing, in tune with the furnishing style and preferably with solar energy.

The ideal paving solution is porcelain stoneware which – thanks to the high technological content and versatility of the material – manages to guarantee at the same time beauty, practicality and safety, also in environments exposed to the elements, surfaces subject to high traffic and where water reigns supreme, like in the swimming pool area.

In gardens and terraces with a minimal, industrial and vintage look, surfaces in concrete or stone-effect porcelain stoneware are ideal, blending in with the design in an essential and elegant way. Instead, for classic-style, Nordic and Provençal outdoor environments, wood-effect porcelain stoneware is preferable, harmonizing perfectly with the green element.
