Fap has been selected for the prestigious two-yearly Compasso d’Oro ADI award


The ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale) Permanent Design Observatory has selected our Bloom STAR by FAP for publication in the ADI Design Index 2020, the first volume of the two-yearly cycle of works shortlisted for the prestigious Compasso d'Oro ADI 2020 award.

The Award, established in 1954 by “La Rinascente” and managed by ADI since 1956, acknowledges the production and design quality of objects, processes, services and systems that form part of Italian Design, and over the years has created the largest historical collection of Design, which in 2004, was declared an "asset of national interest" by Ministerial Decree no. 22.04.2004.

In addition, since 2009, the ADI Design Index has also been used for the annual selection of the National Award for Innovation, sponsored by the Presidency of the Republic.


Bloom STAR is a novel feature in the FAP production range: the largest 3D wall tile, in a brand-new 80x160 cm size, characterised by a three-dimensional texture inspired by hand-made objects, reminiscent of the ancient art of origami and artistic paper creations.

"Ceramics with a special touch", a vibrant texture shifting in all directions, able to create a striking, sensory impact on the walls.

The large size of Bloom STAR amplifies the three-dimensional pattern, bringing visual continuity to the setting and creating an engaging, enveloping effect using just a few elements and a minimal number of joints, requiring just three tiles to cover a height of 240 cm.

The end result is a subtle sensation of movement enhanced by its encounter with the light, able to bring pace to the walls with pleasant light and shade effects.

The aesthetic innovation of the 3D tiles is complemented by the white-body technology, which makes them easier to lay and install, because the slabs are light and easy to cut, pierce and handle.

FAP is proud to have received this acknowledgement, which considers the finest products of Italian design, taking account of originality, innovation, sustainability and formal quality, areas in which the ceramic manufacturer of Modena has always sought to excel.

“We are very honoured that – for the second time in a short space of time – a new FAP product has been selected by ADI Design, because this”, explains Norberto Marzani, “is a reward for our on-going pursuit of innovation, style and design”.

In 2017, the DOT Rame element from the Color Now collection was selected.

“In both cases, what was acknowledged was the combination of the surface, material, 3D texture and craftsmanship quality that was taken on board in the manufacturing process.
This really is an important acknowledgement for us, which provides confirmation and support for us to continue our efforts in this direction of artistic, design and technological research”.
